Getting Past Common Fitness Roadblocks

Every stalled routine I've reviewed in twelve years of coaching came down to the same five obstacles. None of them mean you're broken — each has a tactical fix that takes less effort than quitting and restarting.

1. "I have no time"

Three 30-minute full-body sessions beat zero 90-minute ones. Pair them with a daily step target and you've covered 90% of general fitness in under three hours a week.

2. "My knees / back hurt"

Pain is information, not a verdict. Swap impact for incline walking, lunges for step-ups, and get a movement screen — our fitness program starts every member with one.

3. "I've plateaued"

Plateaus usually mean the plan stopped progressing, not that your body stopped responding. Add one variable — load, reps, steps, or protein — and measure for two weeks before judging.

  • Progress one variable at a time
  • Track adherence before changing plans
  • Deload every 4–6 weeks
  • Sleep 7+ hours to actually adapt

4 & 5. "Gyms intimidate me" and "I fall off"

Train at home with dumbbells — results don't care about location. And adherence beats intensity: a coach reviewing your videos weekly keeps the streak alive through the motivation dips that end most solo attempts.
